Over 500 square meters of exhibition space, installed beneath the marinelife tanks of the Genoa Aquarium, offer a virtual tour of prehistoric abysses

Paleoaquarium is a virtual journey into the prehistoric abysses that combines the most advanced technologies with highly scientific contents, an exhibition that offers visitors an innovative edutainment experience through time machines, virtual reality stations, paleontology laboratories, life-size reproductions of animals and original interactive solutions, from the X-Ray station to the Selfie Shark. The highlight of the visitor experience is the possibility of climbing aboard a ‘time machine’ and being transported, thanks to virtual reality, into the past hundreds of millions of years ago.

A VR Gear theatre with 10 dynamic seats for a 4D journey back in time. Comfortably seated and wearing virtual reality visors, the audience begins the journey on an imaginary time machine, starting in modern-day Italy, making a first stop in Brazil some 112,000,000 years ago and then a second in England, even further back in time – 163,000,000 years ago – where, in the depths of the sea, they will find Liopleurodon and other species from that era.

1 edutainment game station – the Dig and Learn – which allows you, just like a palaeontologist, to discover animal remains and reconstruct them digitally. 1 interactive lighbox – X-Ray – the station that allows you to take an X-ray of a marine animal. 1 station here – Paleoquiz – to have fun by answering questions relating to the contents of the exhibition correctly in the shortest possible time. 1 educational station – Paleo Lab – to watch immersive dialogues between palaeontologists. 1 large wall projection depicting an ancient sea with marine animals present in prehistoric times. 1 selfie area, for monstrous and impactful photos 1 VR station – Paleo VR – an immersive virtual reality film representing a journey from the Mesozoic to the present day. Life-size reconstructions, casts of marine animals and glass slides complete the exhibition.
