ETT will actively participate in the Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW) 2025, scheduled to take place from March 20 to 28 in Boulder, Colorado, as part of its activities within the POLARIN project. POLARIN is an international network of polar research infrastructures and services aimed at addressing the scientific challenges of polar regions.
Together with the National Research Council of Italy (ISP), ETT coordinates Work Package 4 of the POLARIN project, focusing on the development of innovative solutions to simplify access, processing, and management of polar data. Specifically, ETT optimises data flows from polar infrastructures, developing tools that facilitate access to data even for non-expert users in the Arctic and Antarctic regions, remote places but valuable sources for understanding climate change. Additionally, ETT contributes to the creation of a virtual access portal to centralize data and ensures integration with other digital platforms (WP5) while guaranteeing data and metadata compliance with FAIR principles to maintain quality and usability for research purposes (WP6).
During ASSW 2025, ETT and CNR will present their joint work on the POLARIN project, with a particular focus on the functionalities of the POLARIN Data Hub. This platform integrates advanced tools such as ERDDAP, GeoServer, and GeoNetwork to enhance data discovery and accessibility. Furthermore, the presentation will showcase POLARIN’s approach to data management, which is centered on FAIR principles and open science, including participation in the ZENODO Open Research pilot project.
The presentation, titled Unlocking Polar Research with Integrated Infrastructures, FAIR Data Management, and Open Science, is part of session 8.2, “Data-Driven Research: Streamlining Collaboration Between Repositories and Researchers,” scheduled for March 27, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The session will focus on collaboration between open data repositories and the scientific community, exploring ways to make Arctic research data more accessible, organized, and reusable.
Additionally, during ASSW, the European Polar Board (EPB) meeting will take place, with POLARIN being one of its key projects.
The event will provide ETT and POLARIN partners with a valuable opportunity to engage with the international scientific community, further contributing to innovation and polar data management through the development of advanced technological solutions.
