A learning environment in the metaverse with a customised 3D space integrated into the Spatial.IO platform
For the Zayed University in Dubai ETT designed and developed a customised 3D space integrated into the platform. The spatial architecture is characterised by a large, open space with a large terrace and an ad hoc skydome. The learning stations are arranged in the central part of the open space, separated by a few walls from the coffee and relaxation area. The conference room and the lecture room are accessible from the ends of the open space, via a dedicated connection to these two rooms.
Integration with the platform included custom elements including consistent furniture, university logo, skydome, and lecture hall platform template. The ability to support up to 50 avatars per space fosters large-scale collaborations and interactions.
Within this metaverse, students and professors, equipped with personalized avatars, can interact with the school environment in different ways depending on their roles, use immersive technologies – such as VR – to access spaces and experience innovative education. Students interact in an immersive and personalized way with teachers during distance learning, thus enhancing the learning experience.
The environment equips users with a variety of features designed specifically to meet different needs. Customized avatars, action/reaction options, integration of multimedia content, and inclusion of additional rooms for lectures, meetings, and exams increase the versatility and functionality of the platform.
