From 8 to 14 June, GIFT – A Gesture of Return will be the title of the multimedia art installation featured in the exhibition space of Regione Siciliana – Department of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity during the Sicily Week at the 36th Universal Expo in Osaka.
Inspired by Sicilian myths, rituals, and traditions surrounding the wheat cycle—core elements of the island’s cultural identity—the installation draws on the symbolic language of exchange and reciprocity. As part of the experience, 1,200 artistically crafted loaves of bread will be gifted to visitors in exchange for a handwritten personal thought, which will then become an integral, living part of the installation.
Multimedia elements will enrich the experience, contributing to an immersive narrative that also includes live performances, all aimed at fostering a spirit of sharing and envisioning a more sustainable future.
As part of the project commissioned by the Department of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity for Osaka 2025, ETT is overseeing and coordinating the development of the installation, supporting a range of components—from the artistic direction by Gandolfo Gabriele David and the original music by Maestro Gianni Gebbia, to the bread-making workshops and the video documentary capturing the creation process. ETT is also responsible for logistics and materials transport management.
