The digital museum display, realised by ETT in collaboration with Samsung, offers an immersive visitor experience of the Museo Teatrale alla Scala in Milan

A Virtual Museum within reach of your smartphone

The multimedia design includes an app for mobile devices that accompanies the exploration of the Museum’s rooms and the Scaliger sites in Milan along six interactive routes.

Once one of the 7 languages has been selected in the app, visitors are immersed in the atmosphere of 19th-century Milan and La Scala Theatre. Six routes are available, including an educational one dedicated to children. Each work corresponds to a data sheet consisting of title, author, date of realisation and room where it is located in one of the most prestigious Italian museums linked to the world of theatre, as well as images and additional audio/video contributions. At any time, the user can decide whether to continue the route undertaken or to access the selection of works or to switch to “free visit” mode. Route 1:Grand Tour – a complete overview of all rooms

Route 2: The Nine Muses 9 works – instruments, sketches, paintings – that best represent the Museum’s cultural offering

Route 3: The Museum Treasures – a broader excursus covering most of the works with insights into the authors, events and protagonists depicted in them

Route 4: Celebrities – the history of La Scala told through the lives of the great stars who have animated it over the centuries. From Giuseppe Verdi to Maria Callas, from Arturo Toscanini to Rudolf Nureyev.

Route 5: La Scala and Milan – stories and itineraries -the secret of Milan’s La Scala places: The Teatro dei Filodrammatici, Casa Verdi, the Pinacoteca di Brera are some of the 19 POIs indicated on a map of 19th-century Milan. By activating the GPS it will be possible to follow a route and visit these places.

Route 6: Up and down the Scala – route dedicated to children and is divided into 4 stories with playful activities and puzzles. Accompanying the young spectators on their discovery of the Theatre and Museum will be a mask and a mysterious character.

The Museo Teatrale alla Scala is the place where the Theatre preserves its history and makes it accessible to visitors from all over the world. The communication tools made available to us by the new technologies allow us to add a virtual space to the Museum's physical spaces, enabling us to deepen our visit but also to get to know our Museum from a distance

Discover the Theatre with Niccoletta Manni, Prima Ballerina

In addition, a virtual reality experience, which can be experienced with the use of a visor, makes the visitor the protagonist and invites him or her on a unique journey to discover the secret places of the theatre, led by the hand by prima ballerina Nicoletta Manni; seven multimedia installations offer insights into the history of the works in the exhibition rooms. The video is shot in 360° using the subjective camera technique.

Nicoletta will then accompany the visitor in the entrance foyer, in the stalls, on the Main Stage, in the vault above the chandelier, on the balcony backstage. At this point the visitor will find himself in the shoes of a dancer ( Andriashenko Timofej) in the rehearsal room of the theatre, dancing with Nicoletta, in the dressmaking room before the performance and finally on the stage of the theatre. Almost as if in a dream, in the last scene the visitor becomes a spectator, it is 8 p.m. and the performance at La Scala is about to begin.

Virtual Tour

The Virtual tour, realised with Matterport technology, available in Italian, English and French, reproduces all the 8 halls of the Museo Teatrale alla Scala, the Palco Centrale and the Foyer, with textual insights, audio visuals of the most important halls and works (more than 80 POIs).
