Exploring 2,600 Years of Agrigento’s Living Heritage
In the heart of Agrigento, the former Collegio dei Padri Filippini has been transformed into an innovative cultural hub that revives the city’s millennia-old heritage through modern and engaging media, offering a narrative that spans from the origins of the Greek polis of Akragas to the complexities of the 20th century.
ETT designed and implemented the multimedia exhibition, turning the spaces into a vibrant and participatory environment capable of connecting tradition and innovation, and providing visitors with an accessible and shared cultural experience.
The museum’s narrative unfolds through multimedia tools that highlight the history and identity of Agrigento. A large LED wall opens the journey with a visual story reflecting the city’s religious soul, while 360° films and immersive room videos guide visitors through artworks, manuscripts, monuments, and traditions, enhanced with animations and architectural suggestions.
The graphic timeline displayed on the lightbox, organized by historical periods, guides the exploration of the city’s history and, at intervals, incorporates screens offering video insights, creating a continuous dialogue between visual storytelling and multimedia content. Touchscreen tables allow visitors to delve into the lives of historical figures, local festivals, and events, with dedicated sections for artworks and for popular traditions, presented through images and archival materials. Special attention is given to the interactive city map, which suggests the best way to explore Agrigento—from the historic center to the outskirts, the Valley of the Temples, and even the city’s lesser-known alleys.
Metaphorà is not just a museum; it is a metaphor for Sicily and the world: an invitation to discover Agrigento in its entirety, to look beyond the most famous sites, and to experience heritage as a driver of identity. Through multimedia tools and supplementary materials, the museum sparks curiosity and provides insights that guide visitors not only through the exhibition spaces but also in exploring the real city itself.
