On the occasion of ‘Genova Jeans’, the MEI – National Museum of Italian Emigration hosted an exhibition entirely dedicated to the history of jeans, from its Genoese origins to its worldwide affirmation
In the evocative space of the loggia on the second floor of the Commenda di S. Giovanni di Prè, “At the roots of Jeans” tells the story of the historical aspects and customs of Jeans through multimedia exhibits and the set-up created by ETT.
The story comes to life through paintings, videos and scrolling images made accessible in touch stations and explanatory panels in Italian and English that tell the curiosities of the world’s most iconic fabric.
Flanked by some significant works, such as eighteenth-century nativity statuettes where characters wear denim garments, a large timeline superimposed on a lightbox allows visitors to retrace the most significant stages of jeans, narrated interactively thanks to the sliding montior. Two touch-tables animate the historical routes of cotton, indigo and fabrics and then explore the history of jeans in Genoa with videos, curiosities and anecdotes.
