On 16 August at 6pm, the new museum centre of Palazzo Trigona della Floresta in Piazza Armerina was inaugurated. ETT has realised for the Sicilian Region, the Archaeological Park of Morgantina and the Villa Romana del Casale the multimedia visitor experience that combines careful historical curatorial work with the potential of new technologies.
At Palazzo Trigona, visitors can take a fascinating journey through time and history to discover Piazza Armerina and its territory, accompanied by an exceptional guide. The 16th-century baron Marco Trigona welcomes visitors at the entrance in the form of a talking picture and then goes from room to room to lead the narration in the first person.
The various historical epochs are dealt with in the rooms according to a dual narrative and fruition register: in the touch tables, an introductory motion graphic video provides salient facts and helps to frame the general characters of the period. On the lecterns, on the other hand, one can browse through thematic galleries to discover works, personalities and aspects characterising the period in question.
In many rooms, technology dialogues with archaeological finds and artistic artefacts, enhancing the layout and the visitor experience.
Two rooms are devoted entirely to the Villa Romana del Casale, a Unesco Site since 1997. In the Immersive Room, the visitor is enveloped in history through full-wall projections, through which he can relive the splendour of the villa. The potential of computer graphics, combined with accurate 3D reconstructions, restore the original layout of some of the rooms, and then literally immerse themselves in the atmospheres and astonishing details of the Mosaic of the Great Hunt.
A mobile app with geolocation of the sites has also been created, allowing visitors to plan their visit itinerary according to their own interests. The new App, which can be downloaded free of charge, features informative content to complete the visit to the city of Piazza Armerina, Palazzo Trigona and the Roman Villa del Casale.
