From 27 to 29 November 2024, Lisbon will host the next edition of the World Conference Cities & Ports, organised by AIVP (International Association Cities & Ports). The event, which will be held at the prestigious venue of the Champalimaud Foundation, is a unique opportunity for experts, leaders and global stakeholders to discuss the theme ‘Open Piers: Steering flows between people, planet, and port cities’. The conference will explore the fundamental role of ports in reconnecting cities to their surrounding waters and managing flows between people, planet, and port cities.
Docks, the interface between land and water, have become increasingly inaccessible spaces in recent decades. However, a new trend is emerging towards more open piers, offering an opportunity to redefine the relationship between cities and ports. The conference will explore new opportunities related to sustainability, the blue economy and the energy transition, discussing commitments made in major international forums such as the UNFCCC COP29, the UN Ocean Conference and G20 meetings.
In the afternoon of 28 November, ETT will be the protagonist of a parallel session dedicated to ‘Environment and Biodiversity’, where Antonio Novellino, R&D Smart&Sustainable City Manager, will explore the environmental challenges that ports and cities face in reducing their impact on local biodiversity.
The session will also include a Solution Hub to examine concrete solutions and innovative technologies for biodiversity conservation applicable to port cities where we will share the Italian contribution in this field, alongside speakers from Angola, Brazil and France, outlining new approaches to promote a harmonious coexistence between port activities and the environment.
