The “Canova. Eternal Beauty”(Canova. Eterna Bellezza) Exhibition Has Had More Than 90,000 Visitors Since It Opened.
It will continue, with special evening opening-times every Saturday and Sunday until 22.00. The extended opening-times are in addition to the normal daily hours from 10.00 to 19.00 (latest entry at 18.00). The evening opening-times will start on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 January, and will then continue on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 January, Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 January, Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 February, Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 February, Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 February, Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February, Saturday 29 February and Sunday 1 March, Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 March, and Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 March 2020.
The exhibition is promoted by the Roma Capitale Department of Cultural Development, produced by the Capitolina Superintendency for Cultural Heritage and by Arthemisia, and planned together with Zètema Progetto Cultura. It is curated by Giuseppe Pavanello and organised in collaboration with the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca and with Gypsotheca and Museo Antonio Canova in Possagno.
There are over 170 works on show, coming from major public and private Canova collections; including works by some of his contemporaries.
Set in a fit-out with high visual impact and grouped in thirteen sections, the displayed works tell of Canova’s art and the context encountered by the sculptor when he arrived in Rome in 1779. Sophisticated lighting solutions along the exhibition route recall the warm torch-lit atmosphere in the Via delle Colonnette studio where the artist, at the close of the eighteenth century, showed his works to guests at night.
