27 representatives from Italian and Croatian partner organisations are taking part in the Archaeodigit Kick-off Meeting, held on 20 and 21 March in Macerata.
The ARCHAEODIGIT project (ARCHAEOlogical DIGITal paths for an inclusive and sustainable tourism), funded by the INTERREG VI-A Italy–Croatia 2021–2027 Programme, aims to lay the foundation for the development of an innovative methodology for the preservation, interpretation, and enhancement of archaeological sites within a broader cultural and tourism ecosystem. The project focuses on strengthening the use of digital technologies, integrating tangible and intangible heritage, and fostering wider public access to archaeological resources.
ARCHAEODIGIT connects archaeological sites and cities across Italy and Croatia, with the goal of creating a shared model of management and promotion, based on best practices and successful case studies. The project seeks to establish archaeological heritage as a strategic asset for reducing tourism seasonality in coastal areas, through effective service communication and engaging digital tools for visitor experience.
The Municipality of Macerata is leading the project. Italian partners include the University of Macerata, ETT, the Altilia–Saepinum archaeological area (Molise), and the Forum of Adriatic and Ionian Chambers of Commerce. On the Croatian side, the project involves the Municipality of Kaštela, the Municipality of Omišalj, and the University of Pula (PP).
ETT will play a key role in the development of advanced digital solutions to promote archaeological heritage. Specifically, ETT will coordinate the participatory design process of the ARCHAEODIGIT platform – a shared tool for cultural enhancement and communication of local tourism services. In addition to developing the platform, ETT will oversee the technological components and user experience design of the pilot actions at each participating site.
