Vinci: an exhibition space dedicated to Leonardo Da Vinci that accompanies the discovery of the Master’s passion for wine and the well-being of the table

Leonardo: il dono della vigna (The Gift of the Vineyard) is the interactive exhibition-located in an old gallery that housed a wine museum in the 19th century-that tells the story of Leonardo’s relationship with wine by tracing vines between Vinci, Milan, Tuscany and Romagna.

Scientist, artist, author, mathematician: Everything in Vinci is about Leonardo. Il dono della vigna (the gift of the vineyard) accompanies the discovery of his more personal side, that of his passion for wine and the well-being of the table. The exhibition starts in the Vinci area, where the Master spent his childhood and adolescence, participating in the grape harvest and experiencing firsthand the daily grind of production, and then delves into the knowledge of grape varieties and wines present during the Renaissance period. In the walls of the village of Vinci, a permanent exhibition in a gallery that housed a wine museum in the 19th century, for Leonardo daily discovery, creative matter and stimulus for new discoveries.

The visitor is immersed in a space divided into 5 sections and interspersed with 4 multimedia-rich exhibits set up by ETT.

The exhibits

STATION 1 –SOUND DESIGN – PAGES IN MOTION
The audio station is intended to suggest an evocative and philosophical slant with respect to Leonardo’s connection with wine. Visitors move around accompanied by the sound of moving pages and read aloud fragments from Leonardo’s notebooks.

STATION 2 – FLOOR PROJECTION – ZONE MAP

A floor projection shaped about 260 x 160 cm and activated by a proximity sensor hosts a narrative dedicated to the territory, during which specifically designed maps and infographics alternate. It highlights the specificities of the Vinci area, which is different in terms of historical and pedoclimatic characteristics than the immediately surrounding territories of the Chianti Montalbano area.

STATION 3 – PROJECTION – LETTER TO THE FARMER

An animation reproduces the animated composition of Leonardo’s Letter to the Factor of Fiesole, with its methodological observations and winemaking techniques. Character by character, accompanied by the sound of the movement of the inked feather on the parchment, the letter forms, dissolves, reforms.

STATION 4 – PROJECTION – TABLE SETTING

The wall accommodates a projection of a 15th-century panel. The iconography is derived from works of the time, with symbolic objects brought together in a composition that is activated as visitors pass by. The projection is preceded by printed backdrops with depictions are taken from fifteenth- and sixteenth-century paintings and frescoes, evocative of the Montalbano hills and territory.
