Stories, colors, and dynamic visuals transform the ancient walls into the pages of a great illustrated book.

Architecture becomes storytelling.

Cinematic images come to life on the walls, portraits of historical figures emerge, and geometries and graphics open up new, unexpected scenarios—all powered by an impressive technological setup. These are the distinctive elements of the multimedia video mapping show produced by ETT for the Municipality of Gorizia.

As the show unfolds, starting from lines and graphic patterns that interact with the architectural façades of the Lanzi Courtyard, the narrative context takes shape with striking clarity. The castle’s stonework becomes a vast illustrated book, vividly colored and set against dreamlike backdrops

A New Narrative for the Cultural Heritage

The show features two distinct video mappings, directed by Federico Basso, dedicated to the stories of the fortress and its historical figures, medieval culture, the surrounding territory, and the city’s rich history.

In each scene, the architectural surfaces are used creatively and in ever-changing ways, following a consistent narrative structure articulated across three levels. The first is an overall composition—a sort of tableau vivant—framed by an architectural silhouette, a wall stripped of certain structural elements, opening a gateway to an unexpected vision. Alongside this, a sequence of details highlights the most significant moments of the action, captured on set with moving cameras, focus shifts, and other techniques inspired by cinematic language. Completing the composition are portraits of the protagonists, filmed on green screen, inhabiting the spaces left free by the main projection.

Emotion and surprise connect the audience to the content

When the lights go out, visitors are enveloped in a completely immersive dark space. The castle vanishes as if by magic, transporting the audience through the narrative into other worlds and eras. The walls, windows, and arches of the castle change shape; lines come to life and transform, reorganizing into structures that define the projection areas and repositioning with each scene change to host new elements as transitions.
Original music by Giuseppe Novella underscores the shifts between scenes, captivating and astonishing the audience, enhancing the sense of wonder, and helping them identify with the story told through video mapping. The soundtrack becomes a true narrative layer, reinforcing the connection between the place and the images.
