We are pleased to announce that the paper “Preserving Railway Heritage Through Immersive Experiences: The Pietrarsa Museum Approach” received the Runner-up Best Industry Paper Award at the 10th edition of the International XR Metaverse Conference, held this week in Maastricht.

Promoted by the International Association of Immersive Technology Innovation (IAITI), the conference is one of the most respected global events for the immersive and extended reality sector, with applications ranging from culture and education to tourism and healthcare.

The paper explores the approach adopted by the National Railway Museum of Pietrarsa, where extended reality technologies are used to enhance Italy’s railway heritage. Through a combination of storytelling, advanced audiovisual techniques, and multisensory environments, the museum offers visitors an innovative and immersive experience of Italy’s industrial memory.

This recognition highlights the commitment of ETT and Fondazione FS, and of the paper’s authors—Adele Magnelli and Aurelio Destile (Account Managers at ETT) and Sabato Gargiulo, Head of Infrastructure at Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane—to promoting cultural heritage through innovative digital solutions.
