An accessible tool that can transport the user to otherwise inaccessible or unexplored places

The Santa Giulia Museum unveils two areas inaccessible to the disabled public, the Lower Hall of Santa Maria in Solario and the Crypt of San Salvatore.

Thanks to 360° technology, the differently-abled user uses a VR cardboard and a related QR code to discover and interact with the two environments, assuming the point of view of the director. Standing in place, he or she can be transported to otherwise inaccessible or unexplored places. Because he or she stands in the center of the scene, the visitor chooses what to observe and where to place his or her attention, with the feeling of being in that place at that precise moment.

Virtual reality thus becomes a valuable support for museum operators to ensure full accessibility of spaces for people with reduced or limited motor skills. The use of an object as simple as the cardboard allows the user to go beyond traditional boundaries, into areas that were previously accessible.
